Bridging Science and Cleaning Technology

As the founder of Teddy's Cleaning Services and a bioinformatics scientist, I'm uniquely positioned at the intersection of advanced cleaning technology and scientific research. My mission is to bridge the gap between space-age innovations and practical cleaning solutions for homes and businesses.

MSc Bioinformatics Environmentalist NASA Technology Enthusiast Qualified Researcher

From Ethiopia to Australia: A Journey of Innovation

My story begins in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where I was born into a family that valued education and innovation above all else. Growing up in a developing nation, I witnessed firsthand how proper cleaning and sanitation could transform communities and save lives. This early exposure to the profound impact of cleanliness sparked a lifelong fascination with cleaning technologies and their potential to improve human health and well-being.

At the age of eight, my family immigrated to Australia, opening a new chapter of opportunities and challenges. The transition to a new country, culture, and educational system was not without difficulties, but it was during this period that I developed the resilience and adaptability that would later become hallmarks of my entrepreneurial approach.

In Australia, I excelled academically, particularly in the sciences, which led me to pursue higher education in a field that combined my interests in biology, technology, and data analysis. This path ultimately culminated in earning my Master of Science degree in Bioinformatics from La Trobe University in Melbourne. My thesis focused on studying cell polarity using Trichoplax adhaerens as a model organism. This research, while seemingly distinct from cleaning, deepened my understanding of cellular organization and the intricate processes that maintain structural integrity and function at a microscopic level. This scientific rigor and attention to detail are principles I now apply to Teddy's Cleaning Services, ensuring we understand the fundamental aspects of cleanliness and apply innovative, scientifically-backed approaches to every task.

The Intersection of Bioinformatics and Cleaning Science

My academic background in bioinformatics might seem distant from the cleaning industry at first glance, but the connection is both profound and revolutionary. Bioinformaticsthe application of computational techniques to analyze biological datahas transformed how we understand the microbial world that surrounds us, including the complex ecosystems that exist in our living spaces.

During my graduate studies at La Trobe University in Melbourne, I focused on mapping and analyzing microbial communities in various environments. My thesis work, specifically on studying cell polarity using Trichoplax adhaerens as a model organism, delved deep into the intricate organization and function of cells at a microscopic level. This research revealed how different cleaning approaches could either disrupt beneficial microbial ecosystems or selectively target harmful organisms. I became fascinated by the potential to develop "microbiome-aware" cleaning protocols that could maintain healthy environmental balance while effectively eliminating pathogens.

This detailed understanding of microscopic processes and the development of computational models to predict how various agents would affect specific microbial communities not only earned academic recognition but also laid the groundwork for the data-driven cleaning methodologies that would later become a cornerstone of Teddy's Cleaning Services.

The intersection of bioinformatics and cleaning science represents a new frontier in the industryone that moves beyond the traditional "kill all microbes" approach toward a more nuanced understanding of environmental health. This scientific foundation has allowed me to develop cleaning protocols that are not only more effective but also healthier for humans and the planet.

Founding Teddy's Cleaning Services: A Vision Beyond Conventional Cleaning

In 2025, I founded Teddy's Cleaning Services with a vision that extends far beyond conventional cleaning companies. While many cleaning services focus solely on aesthetics and surface-level cleanliness, I saw an opportunity to create a company that would integrate cutting-edge science, technology, and sustainability into every aspect of its operations.

The early days are challenging, as I balance ongoing innovation with building our client base. Operating initially from a small apartment in Melbourne, I personally handle client consultations and cleaning work, using each job as an opportunity to refine our approaches and test new technologies. Currently, my work includes a regular commercial venue, occasional end-of-lease cleans, and an internet caf, with the rest of my time dedicated to research and development.

What sets Teddy's Cleaning Services apart from the beginning is our commitment to evidence-based cleaning. Rather than relying on traditional cleaning wisdom or marketing claims from product manufacturers, we're actively implementing science and technology to determine the most effective methods for different environments. So far, we've made strides in waste management initiatives, helping local areas utilize recycling depots around Melbourne more effectively. I've also personally built an air quality analyzer, sharing a step-by-step guide on our technology page to empower others with knowledge about their environment.

This scientific approach is already beginning to earn us a reputation among discerning clients who value results over conventional approaches. As Teddy's Cleaning Services grows, I envision assembling a team that shares my vision for truly revolutionary cleaning services, expanding our reach while always maintaining our commitment to innovation and effectiveness.

The Future: Bridging Space Technology and Everyday Cleaning

My interest in space technology stems from the belief that it represents the peak of cleaning innovation. The extreme conditions of space demand solutions that are incredibly efficient, effective, and sustainable qualities that are paramount to our vision at Teddy's Cleaning Services. While I haven't attended a specific NASA workshop, my continuous research into advancements made for extraterrestrial environments has revealed a wealth of knowledge in advanced materials, antimicrobial surfaces, and air purification systems designed for space stations.

This ongoing exploration has sparked a clear direction for Teddy's Cleaning Services: investigating how these cutting-edge space-age technologies can revolutionize everyday cleaning practices here on Earth. While we're still in the research and development phase of many of these innovations, we're incredibly excited about the potential to bring truly revolutionary cleaning solutions to Australian homes and businesses.

Some of the space-inspired concepts and technologies we're currently exploring include:

  • Advanced air purification systems based on ISS technology
  • Antimicrobial surface treatments that provide long-lasting protection
  • Water purification and conservation methods developed for long-duration space missions
  • Sensor technologies that can detect and monitor microbial presence in real-time

While these technologies are still being adapted for practical, everyday use, they represent the future direction of Teddy's Cleaning Services and our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the cleaning industry.

Educational Initiatives: Sharing Knowledge and Inspiring Innovation

Beyond providing cleaning services, I'm deeply committed to education and knowledge sharing. I believe that by demystifying the science behind cleaning and making this information accessible to everyone, we can collectively improve environmental health and wellbeing.

This commitment has led to several educational initiatives, including:

  • The TED-ucation program, which offers workshops and resources on scientific cleaning principles
  • Our Space-Age Blog, where we explore the intersection of cutting-edge technology and cleaning science
  • DIY guides for creating simple environmental monitoring tools
  • Partnerships with schools to promote STEM education through practical cleaning science projects

These initiatives reflect my belief that cleaning is not just a service but a scienceone that deserves serious attention, research, and innovation. By sharing our knowledge and inspiring others to think differently about cleaning, we hope to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable future for all.
